Frequently Asked Questions About Memorial Urns

Find answers to common questions about our mini urns, personalization options, pricing, shipping, and ash scattering. We’re here to help guide you through every step of creating a meaningful memorial.

Product Information

The mini urns are crafted from aluminum titanium alloy, ensuring durability and quality. After the ashes are scattered and locations recorded, the mini urns can be kept as meaningful mementos or recycled according to your preference.

The mini urns are designed to be compact and discreet—holding 140 ml (approximately 4.7 oz) of cremated remains. This relatively small size allows many family members and friends to participate in the celebration of life, while ensuring the amount of ash scattered at each location remains unobtrusive.

The number of urns depends on two factors:

  • The number of meaningful locations chosen by the deceased or their loved ones
  • How many family members or friends will be participating in ash scattering ceremonies

Many families start with our 4-pack set and add additional urns as needed for more locations.

Yes, you can absolutely mix and match! We offer four color options:

  • Black
  • Bronze
  • Gold
  • Silver

Choose all one color for uniformity, or select multiple colors to distinguish between different locations or family members.

Customization & Pricing

Ash Scattering & Regulations

Cremation remains are non-toxic and not harmful to the environment. However, we recommend following federal, state, and local guidelines to ensure legal compliance.

Important resources:

  • Review our comprehensive Guide to Spreading Ashes for state-by-state regulations
  • Always seek permission from property owners when scattering on private land
  • Check local municipal regulations, as cities and counties may have specific rules

The industry consensus is between 3 and 4 quarts of ash by volume for an adult body. However, the actual amount depends on several factors:

  • Density of bone structure
  • Sex
  • Body size
  • Height

This variation is completely normal and doesn’t affect the memorial process.

Handling Cremated Remains

No. Cremation remains are not handled by Reminisce in any capacity. We provide the urns, but families are responsible for transferring the ashes themselves.

If you feel uncomfortable handling your loved one’s ashes:

  • Your funeral home or crematorium can assist
  • A trusted family member may be willing to help
  • A close friend might offer support

This is a common concern, and funeral professionals are experienced in helping families with this process.
